Italy Removals Health and Safety Policy
Italy Removals is committed to delivering professional removal services while protecting the health, safety and welfare of our employees, contractors, customers and the general public. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across all removal activities, including packing, lifting, loading, transport and delivery of goods for residential and commercial moves.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, and damage to property or the environment by operating our removal services in a safe and responsible manner. Health and safety considerations are integrated into planning and undertaking all moves, from initial survey and quotation through to final delivery and installation at the destination.
Management at Italy Removals accepts overall responsibility for ensuring that appropriate systems, resources, training and supervision are in place. Every employee and contractor must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work.
Responsibilities
Senior management is responsible for setting health and safety standards, reviewing risk assessments and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practice. They will allocate sufficient resources to implement and maintain this policy and will review its effectiveness regularly.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for day to day implementation on site and in transit. They must ensure that staff understand and follow safe working procedures, use equipment correctly and report hazards or incidents promptly.
Removal operatives and drivers are required to cooperate fully with this policy, attend required training, use personal protective equipment where provided and follow all instructions relating to safe lifting, loading, driving and site conduct. They must immediately report any accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions or damaged equipment.
Customers are asked to support safe working by providing clear access, notifying us of any particular hazards at collection or delivery addresses and following reasonable safety instructions from our teams during the move.
Risk Assessment and Planning
Italy Removals conducts risk assessments appropriate to the nature and scale of its activities. This includes assessing common hazards associated with removal work such as manual handling, working at height, vehicle movements, loading and unloading, confined spaces, environmental conditions and fragile or heavy items.
Before each move, the company will plan routes, access points, parking arrangements and loading areas wherever possible. Particular care is taken for properties with narrow stairways, limited access, high floors, or where specialist equipment such as hoists or stair climbers may be required.
Where specific risks are identified, additional controls will be implemented. These may include using extra personnel, mechanical aids, protective coverings, or scheduling work to avoid peak traffic or crowded times.
Safe Working Practices
All staff must adopt safe manual handling techniques when lifting, carrying and moving items. This includes assessing the weight and shape of loads, using team lifts where appropriate and using mechanical aids such as trolleys and dollies whenever possible. No employee should attempt to lift or move an item they consider unsafe.
Vehicles are to be loaded and unloaded in a controlled manner, ensuring even weight distribution and secure stowage of goods to prevent movement in transit. Access ramps, tail lifts and other equipment must be used correctly and checked regularly for defects.
When working in and around customer properties, operatives must take care to prevent trips, slips and falls by keeping walkways clear, using warning signs where needed and protecting floors, stairways and other vulnerable areas. Particular attention is paid to weather conditions and lighting.
Any specialist equipment used for removals must be operated only by suitably trained personnel and maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidance and company procedures.
Vehicle and Driver Safety
Italy Removals maintains all vehicles used for moving services in a roadworthy, safe condition. Regular inspections, servicing and defect reporting procedures are in place. Drivers must complete daily checks and report any faults without delay.
Drivers are expected to comply with traffic regulations, drive defensively and respect local parking and loading restrictions. Journey planning will take account of realistic travel times, rest periods and safe loading limits.
Mobile devices and navigation systems must be used in a way that does not compromise safe driving. Drivers are not permitted to operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any medication that may impair their ability to drive safely.
Training and Competence
Italy Removals provides appropriate induction and ongoing training for all staff involved in removal services. This may include manual handling techniques, safe use of equipment, vehicle safety, working at height, hazard awareness and emergency procedures.
Competence is monitored through supervision, on the job assessment and refresher training where required. No employee will be asked to carry out tasks for which they have not been trained or are not deemed competent.
Incident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, injuries, near misses, property damage and dangerous occurrences must be reported as soon as practicable. Italy Removals will investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Records of incidents, investigations and remedial measures are kept and reviewed periodically to identify trends and opportunities for improving safety performance.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Italy Removals encourages open communication about health and safety. Employees are invited to raise concerns, suggest improvements and participate in discussions about safer ways of working. No one will be disadvantaged for reporting a genuine safety concern.
This health and safety policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, industry standards, work practices or the nature of our removal services. The latest version will be made available to all staff and to customers on request.
By working together and following the principles in this policy, Italy Removals aims to provide a safe, reliable and professional moving service for all clients, wherever they are relocating.
